A Berliner apartment in Friedenau has been renovated into the new home for a big family. The classic altbau home has been reimagined to accommodate the needs of the family while preserving the beautiful details of the historical space. With a generous floor plan providing more than enough room for everyone, the challenge became finding the right space for every member of the family. What was once the the living room has been converted into an open living kitchen and is now the center of the everyday life for the family. Surrounding the kitchen are the more private rooms. Two large built-in cupboards offer ample storage. The former kitchen has been transformed into a children’s room with a loft bed that can be reached by stairs that double as a cupboard. The built-in furniture is made of a light wood material that compliments the bright character of the space. The open shelves in oak veneer correspond to the parquet floor and create accents throughout the flat.
